Softgrid
has brought major advantages to the Citrix and Terminal
server world, however because all applications are now
"potentially" available to all Citrix servers,
managing the applications and which server they run
on using the Citrix Management Console (CMC) is time
consuming and prone to error. Cardium developed this
application as we can see major benefit to all companies
running both Citrix and Microsoft Softgrid.
Cardium have developed an application
with a Web Based or Excel interface that accesses the
Citrix API's and database to easily manage the Citrix
environment.
If you are running Citrix servers
with Microsoft Softgrid then one big issue is publishing
all the applications available to a new Citrix server
without going into each individual application and adding
the application to the new server. Additionally if you
need to take a server offline and un-publish all applications
from the server this can be achieved again with one
click.
This also resolves the issue where
a server has gone offline, and you need to make changes
to an application that is published to this server the
list of servers that the application is published to
generates an error and the server list is blank. Our
application resolves this issues and allows you to delete
the server that is no longer running. This can be a
major headache if the offline server is not going to
be available for sometime as the CMC (Citrix Management
Console) will not let you add any additional servers
to the application until the server that is not available
come back on line!
The application was actually developed
for disaster recovery, where a customer had applications
that normally ran at the live site. If a disaster struck
they needed a way to move the applications to Citrix
servers at the disaster location - i.e. un-publish the
application on the live server and publish it to the
disaster server. Again this would normally require accessing
each application and specifying and un-specifying which
server the application was now running on.
Other features include a report to
tell you if an application was not running on it's "normal"
server - i.e. it appeared to be in disaster mode.
If you would like more information
on this application or would like development of an
application for Citrix that utilises the Citrix API
and database then please contact the office
