In today's
distributed computing environment, supporting end users
in either remote offices or large buildings can be a
major headache.
With System Centre or SMS 2003 deployed to a Windows
2003 domain and where advanced security is enabled,
the requirements to get SMS to work in this environment
is very complex and needs considerations regarding the
deployment of IIS, adding servers to the local administrators
group (this could be on domain controllers if this is
acting as a secondary site), integrating with Windows
Group Policies and the major headache our customers
have are the security requirements to implement management
points at remote locations. As Cardium already has significant
experience in this area the business benefit for our
customers is the time to deployment which is significantly
reduced as opposed to implementing this in house.
Having implemented SMS 2003 to help support one of our
customers that has out-sourced their IT to us, we have
real knowledge and understanding of the patch management
process required to manage security patches to desktops
and servers.
Cardium Solutions have extensive experience in designing
and deploying Systems Management Software, including
System Centre, SMS 2003 and SMS 2.0. We have designed
and implemented an SMS system to support 100 users in
a single location through to an SMS system to support
2000 users in 350 locations.
Some of the options available in migrating SMS 2.0 to
SMS 2003 are:-
We can perform either of the following types of deployment
for you:-
Design, implement and rollout (total solution). The
ongoing support is performed by members of your own
IT support staff. During the design and implementation,
your IT support team are mentored by Cardium Solutions
consultants to ensure that knowledge transfer is passed
onto the team.
Design, initial implementation, initial rollout. Cardium
solutions will perform a total design but only a subset
of the implementation and rollout performing knowledge
transfer (mentoring), to your IT team. Having performed
the initial implementation with a Cardium consultant,
the IT team, carry on with the implementation with support
from the Cardium Solutions consultants as and when necessary.
This helps to keep down the costs of deploying Microsoft System Centre and
also ensures that a thorough understanding of the system
is gained by the IT team. Cardium Solutions consultants
are committed to ensuring that the Microsoft System Centre design is correct
for your environment. Ensuring the design is right is
an area where most Microsoft System Centre installations fail.
By using Cardium Solutions as mentors,
the actual time to deploy Microsoft System Centre can be reduced significantly
and the IT team get "on the job training".
This is (providing that the IT team have a basic understanding
of Microsoft System Centre), a much better way of training your staff as
they receive training tailored exactly to your requirements.
This can include the use of Microsoft System Centre installer and Wise installer,
which is only touched on in most Microsoft System Centre courses.
Cardium Solutions has extensive knowledge of Wise Package
Studio Scripts, and have developed Wise Package Studio
scripts to distribute both Microsoft and none Microsoft
Applications. Additionally we have experience of developing
scripts to support Windows 2003 and Windows XP or Vista
and using the Microsoft Installer Service to deliver
a desired state desktop using WISE MSI packaging tools.
These can be distributed either natively with Windows
2003 group policy objects, or by Microsoft System Centre
and the MSI technology gets around all the previous
headaches of installing applications with administrative
rights and applying user configurations for the user.
The installer service will manage this for you and is
a very powerful tool. If you require more information
regarding MSI and desired state desktops and how Cardium
can help you deliver this please contact us here
Cardium Solutions can provide tailored training/mentoring
on SMS Administration and software installation scripts
using Wise Package Studio.
