TCP/IP Design
Whether your organisation is a Greenfield
site as far as using TCP/IP, or you already use TCP/IP, Cardium
Solutions can help you design a brand new TCP/IP schema based
on our experience, or integrate Microsoft elements of TCP/IP
(such as Active Directory Integrated DNS and WINS), into your
existing TCP/IP environment.
We can advise on designing the IP schema so that it is easy
to identify devices on the network such as routers, printer's
etc.
With Windows 2003 and Active Directory, a correct DNS design
for your Microsoft environment is even more significant The
decision to use dynamic DNS on Windows 2003, and possibly
move away from your existing UNIX based DNS is a decision
that requires much consideration, and which Cardium Solutions
can assist in making, ensuring the correct decision is made
for the right reasons. Ensuring that Microsoft DNS is configured
correctly will also provide you with the ability to access
non-Microsoft servers such as Unix boxes, without having to
manage lots of HOSTS files.
The migration of an existing DNS system into a new DNS with
a potentially new DNS Domain and Zone names is potentially
very complicated and during any migration it is imperative
that communication between the legacy and new systems takes
place. Any incorrectly configured DNS will make this process
very difficult if not impossible.
DHCP allows your organisation to "forget"
about the IP addressing headache. Utilising DHCP with a correct
set of scopes with correctly configured options ensures that
all DHCP clients get the correct and consistent information
each time. A good DHCP design with DHCP servers in the right
locations (including "backup" DHCP servers) and
correctly configured routers will ensure that a TCP/IP address
is always available all of the time. Again Cardium consultants
have experience of Microsoft DHCP since 1995.
A correct WINS design and implementation
in an NT4.0 environment (and in a Windows 2003 environment
for legacy hardware and applications) ensures that Microsoft
clients can access resources throughout the whole of the network.
Too few WINS servers provides little resilience and potentially
high WAN usage. Too many WINS servers can cause high WAN usage
and also cause name resolution to fail. Cardium Solutions
consultants have experience of designing large-scale WINS
environments since 1995.
Cardium Solutions have several years' experience of designing
and implementing robust and scaleable TCP/IP systems. A TCP/IP
design and implementation that is installed correctly is the
foundation to successfully implementing other Microsoft BackOffice
applications.
